somtimes in spring/summer i get stuffy/sneezy and i take a claritin and it goes away. other than that i dont think i'm allergic to anything.
ChrisChin is Getting Old · 18 years, 1 month ago
I didn't really start getting seriously annoying allergies to pollen until about a few years back. Now I can feel the post nasally drip when it starts to get warm. Bleh. With the snuffy, sneezy, cough, and scratchy throat.

As far as other things go, I think i'm allergic to rum. It's the only alcohol even when taken in small quantities that makes me feel just all bleh, run down, and ill.

Yeah, mid-20s seems to be when pollen allergies start.

Mine started at about 24 or 25. None before that...
Now they're so bad I can't even breathe without claritin.
Used to be that with claritin, they'd be gone... but now they're even overpowering that. granted, this is a particularly bad year.

Kat Kunz Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
yeah, claritin isn't working for me anymore... actually, I'm not sure it's worked for a couple years. I think next year I'll have to see the doc for a prescription for something stronger/different. Stupid itchy eyes/nose fjwlkafjrskaghskljstbbth.

I used to love spring! Now, it just means misery. Alas.
Geoff · 18 years, 1 month ago
I seem to get allergies that coincide with even-numbered years. I first got them in 1998 (really bad) then in 2000. I got them a little in 04.
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 18 years, 1 month ago
I'm also allergic to cats but I don't encounter them as frequently and the severity depends on the cat. Melissa's is he worst. I have to spend the night before LORi's bother me.

How many of your pollen sufferers are finding this year particularly bad?
nate... · 18 years, 1 month ago
I'm a backwards person. No problem at all with shellfish, but very allergic to fish fish. My theory is that it's an oil-borne allergy, since generally speaking, the more oily the fish, the worse my reaction.

I'm also allergic to some cats..... mostly short haired... the long haired ones I tend to be fine with... and some dogs.

Plus the pollen, mentioned above.

none of them, thankfully, are deathly serious allergies, though.

Awwww! How cute! We're allergy buddies! Everything you listed I'm allergic to, along with shelfish, some types of nuts, strawberries and most recently I found out I'm allergic to kiwi.

*I'm not allergic to all shellfish but am not big on trying to figure out which are which*

i have seasonal pollen allergies (mainly various tree pollens), but I recently had sinus surgery because I kept getting sinus infections, and now my allergies aren't nearly so bad. We'll see how they are in the Fall though.
Paul D. Beasi · 18 years, 1 month ago
I have seasonal allergies and some pet allergies, but my biggest problem is with NSAIDs. I take them and I bleed.
Songbill · 18 years, 1 month ago
I am told I am highly allergic to cockroaches, but I've never been around enough of them to really find out.
renita · 18 years, 1 month ago
i have standard allergies.

dust, pollen, grasses, mold, cats, a little bit dogs.

the worst are birch pollen and grasses.

i had them really bad when i was young, until late teens... then they started fading.

around 23 or so, i started noticing that apples and peaches made my mouth itch, but that wasn't so bad...

then my eyes started swelling the next day... that was bad, i stopped eating apples, peaches and nectarines.

it then spread to hazelnuts (relative of birch) that was REALLY bad, i got hives in my mouth and my eyes were almost swollen shut and i broke out in excema all over the place.

so i went to the doctor. i'm not allergic to any of those foods, but when i eat them, my tastebuds or something mistake those proteins for the proteins i AM allergic to and freak out.

however if the food is cooked, the proteins get broken down, and then it doesn't trigger a reaction.

it's called oral allergy syndrome. :p

my list is currently apples, peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, cherries and hazelnuts... maybe almonds, i'm not sure and i don't want to press the issue to find out.

Ooo, that's what I have. I can eat a cooked apple but not a raw one.
Rachel Marie aka RAI · 18 years, 1 month ago
I'm super-allergic to kitties. Pollen can drive me beserko, but kitties and I are not friends, but I really REALLY want them to be. And they like me too. It's super sad. :o(

I've had a cat drool on me. I broke out in hives. And if I touch a cat (which I do when I see them... I'm a bad girl) and then touch my eyes, they get bright red and swell. It's no fun. So if I ever touch a cat, I've learned to wash my hands IMMEDIATELY following.

I am NOT, however, allergic to frogs.

Nik Chaikin · 18 years, 1 month ago
None for me :P
Bender · 18 years, 1 month ago
I'm still feeling the effects from being around a cat for just over an hour in early March. I sometimed get sneezy and itchy and wheezy from standing next to someone who has a cat. I guess that's my superpower -- I'm a cat-owner detector.

Oh, yeah -- also dust, mold, pollen, grass, my pet rats that I had to rehome because I couldn't handle them without having asthma attacks and breaking out in hives, occasionally the sun, and nickel.

Yeah, nickel.

I can only wear titanium in my piercings. Most people say, "What about gold?" Well, it seems that I'm allergic to that, too. An allergy to gold is extremely uncommon in someone without gold fillings, but hey... I guess I'm just a special flower.
nate... Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
oh man, nickel.
Me too.

I found out about that one from a belt buckle..... couldn't figure out why I kept getting this rash..... til I changed belts.... heh.
Bender Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
I found out when I got a huge, bleeding mass that grew on my nose next to my piercings. My piercer switched me from implant-grade surgical steel to titanium and there was no problem after that.

Be thankful you're not a woman -- it's really awkward having to ask for a plastic speculum.
renita Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
i also ask for a plastic speculum, but that's because they aren't cold :)

also, i think they're single use things.
Andrea Krause · 18 years, 1 month ago
This poll made me sad because I have both food and cat allergies. So I can't vote for "only food or medicine".....but then I can't say my worst allergy is to animals, because my worst allergy is in the food category. *thwaps Gordon*
renita Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
that's what the "i'm allergic to so many things that i can't choose just one!" is for

that's what i picked because my worst allergy is probably cats but the worst allergic reaction i get is from hazelnuts.
Andrea Krause Back · 18 years, 1 month ago
Heheh...THAT didn't fit because I'm not actually allergic to all that many things. Cats, dogs, mild pollen, artificial sweeteners. And the only one that's more than a nuisance is the last.
