Discussion: How many countries have you been in?
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 15 years, 9 months ago
I've been in the US, Canada, Israel, and changed planes in England.
lawrence · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, France, and England.
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, England, and China. Though I guess Japan too if you count the layover from the US to China, but alas, I did not because I wasn't even sure if I stopped in Japan since I was 4 at the time.
Nik Chaikin · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, and the British West Indies
Jºnªthªn · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Mexico, the Bahamas, Germany, and Japan. All I need is Italy to get my All Axis Card ;)
Starfox · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Mexico, Guatemala, Japan, England, France, Wales, and um...that's about it.
dirty life & times · 15 years, 9 months ago
us, canada, mexico, israel. france & netherlands if you count plane stopovers. also, i been where what will hopefully be a future palestinian state.
nate... · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Bahamas, Spain, Ireland, Mexico and Jamaica... and actually, do the british virgin islands count?

sheryls · 15 years, 9 months ago
Us, Canada and Japan :D

Boston is starting to feel like a different country. everyone stares at us.
danced with Lazlo · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Israel, France, Spain. So far.
Talcott · 15 years, 9 months ago
Well, those first two ;-)
Also The Netherlands (well, the plane landed in Amsterdam), Austria, Lechtestein, Switzerland, and Germany.

Hrm, and I voted wrong, because I can't count.
*goes up to the poll and changes "8-12" to "7"*
Kris 'engaged' Bedient · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Mexico. yay north america! (I'll break free to europe or asia one of these years)
A girl named Becca · 15 years, 9 months ago
I assume the whole British empire counts as 1 country? Like, can I not get separate points for the British Virgin Islands, Gibraltar, Scotland, and England? (Because I really want to be in that 8-12 bracket!)

[Edit: Ooh! I forgot to count Belgium! I'm in the 8-12 range anyway!]

US, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Belgium, BV Islands/Gibraltar/Scotland/England.
Erato · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Italy, Israel, England, and Scotland.
Bruce Rose Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Same three, and compared to Ohio, Boston is different country. How long do you think it'll be before you have the accent?
Shelly · 15 years, 9 months ago
ooops...i chose 5, but it's -actually- 6 for moi~the US, Canada, Spain, Bahamas, The Dominican Republic{thrice there} & Mexico.

i don't remember where we changed planes or IF we did when i went to spain, so i won't count that.
Shelly Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

I'd count them because you need a state issued birth certificate or passport for proof of citizenship to go there...like you couldn't just stumble in, ya know??

So I'd say you're at 8. =)

Talcott Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
I'd wager not too long.
I already find myself dropping the occasional "R" and saying "Wicked" a bit more often than I plan to ;-)
Andrea Krause Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

I don't think she will. :) My sister lived there for a bunch of years and never developed a hint of it.

Does CT have an accent? I don't think so. But if I'm one of 'em I might not know. :)

Andrea Krause Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

As long as you don't say "ayup..."

And wicked will probably be picked up. Words get picked up much quicker and more easily than full accents.

Livin' in Seattle · 15 years, 9 months ago

US, Canada, Mexico, Venezuala, Bonaire (Netherlands Antilles), Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Japan, Australia.

Mostlyfor work...so while my passport's got a lot of stamps, I've had precious little spare time to explore all these wonderful places. I know the roads between the airport, hotel, and office very well!

rufus t firefly · 15 years, 9 months ago
I think you'll find the Scots would want you to count their fair country separately from England ;).

US, Mexico, England, Scotland, Italy, Malta, Greece, Turkey.

It's so stupid that I haven't been to Canada yet. I'm coming up there, I swear.
nitsita · 15 years, 9 months ago

Canadia, US, France, Switzerland, Spain and Portugal... I forgot Portugal.

. I was nine. I'm entitled to forgetting Portugal.

Sara Woodward · 15 years, 9 months ago
Higher than I thought it'd be. U.S., Canada, England, Ireland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, and Monaco.

I just saw the Scotland note. the CIA world factbook seems to consider it not a separate country, but wikipedia does consider it a separate one. It's a bit of a gray area. if Scotland is a separate country, then I'm at 13, it just depends on how you look at it. not being Scottish or English, I'm not the one to answer the question. :) okay, i'm editting again. you'd think this would be easy. apparently Wales and Scotland are considered separate countries, so i'm at 14, unless something bizarre comes up.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Does Wales count? Is Wales a country? What is Wales? I don't think the Welsh know. Scotland has its own parliament so I think I'd count Scotland but not Wales.

Sara Woodward Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Oh geez, I just editted my post because of Scotland, now I potentially have to count Wales too? you'd think this would have been an easy question!
tibbar · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Mexico, Panama, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong (England), Hong Kong (China), Indonisia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, UAE, Bahrain, Philapines.

hkath · 15 years, 9 months ago
Canada, US, Italy and Greece.
Kyla · 15 years, 9 months ago
Canada, US, Australia, Hong Kong before it was part of China, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Ireland, Spain, England and Japan if you count plane stopovers, and Macao, an island near Hong Kong that belongs to Portugal.
Prinut · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Jamaica, England, France, Germany (those three were layovers going to...) India...
Talcott Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
That and "Wicked" holds a useful place in the language. It ads flexability to a statement.

It's not like "soda" which just replaces another equally useful word ;-)

I'm sure I (or Sheryl) will never have the full, thick, new england accent (which sounds almost British) but bits of it do creep in.

Then again, I've always talked oddly ;-)
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 15 years, 9 months ago
Has anyone here who isn't jewish been to Israel?
Sara Woodward Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
pop is just a word for those people who can't remember all four letters of soda. ;-)
nate... Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
See, I don't know that there's a new england accent as much as a boston accent.

and THAT accent is just dumb. :D
Andrea Krause Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

Well...I think it's more than Boston. Like...maybe Coastal New England. Because RI and Maine and such have a variation.

nate... Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Hrm... yeah, that's true.

But the RI accent is quite a bit different....
As is the maine one, actually.

Andrea Krause Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

But the coastal areas do just generally seem more likely to have pronounced accents. Maybe it's from the old shipping trades and such, contact with folks from overseas and up the canadian coast. :) (of course this is all speculation pulled from my ass. If I actually looked it up I could probably have facts and not speculation!)

Mamalissa! · 15 years, 9 months ago
US, Canada, Aruba, Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Bahamas

Spain, Italy, France, England

Israel, Jordan, Egypt
Kate Leahy · 15 years, 9 months ago
America, Canada, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Belize, Grand Cayman, England, Ireland, Belgium, Holland, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia, Greece, Poland, Austria, and, this summer, Cameroon and probably a couple other countries in Western/Central Africa.
Starfox Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
If you have ever been in Wales, you wouldn't be asking that question. :)
Songbill Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
My uncle in Maine has the big-time New England accent. You know, "Bah Hahbah" and all that. I couldn't differentiate between it and a Boston or other accent, though.
Joy- new picture! Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Hmm. I just counted the whole UK. But that would definitely bump me from my 6 up to 8... very tempting...

(US, Canada, Mexico, France, Ireland, England, Scotland, Wales...)
caroline: tired. · 15 years, 9 months ago
One. The United States. Go me go!
Bruce Rose Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

Does that mean I might not get the Chicago accent? Curses!

I don't think CT has an accent, but I've only really been to Middletown, which is overrun with other accents.

Bruce Rose Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Wicked doesn't just add to a statement... sometimes, it's a statement itself.
Geoff Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
You're in Boston now? Damn, I gotta buy you lunch!

Oh, and I've been in 2. US and Canada. And Canada was just this year.
ChrisChin is Getting Old Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Hee! Bill, what a great icon!

Yeah, the Boston accents can be a bit too nasally for me. Then again, I'm used to the New York accents.
Talcott Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
I can remember all four letters, it's just the direction.

Is it Ados or Soda, I can never remember.

Pop solves that problem, and it's onomatopoeia, which is always a good thing!
lawrence Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
and it's onomatopoeia

it is? maybe when you're referring to a balloon breaking...
danced with Lazlo · 15 years, 9 months ago
How come there's no 0 option for those who were born on ships and have spent their whole lives on international waters? Huh? HUH???

Insensitive clod.
goovie is married! · 15 years, 9 months ago
only five. us, canada, ireland, italy, germany.
Will work for anime · 15 years, 9 months ago
Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, France, Switzerland, Austria (hey, we had to pay extra to cross it on the train, so it counts), Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland (does Northern Ireland count as a separate country?), Hong Kong, Tai Pei, Vietnam.

so 14, 15ish?...next i want to go to Japan
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
Because as anyone conversant with maritime law knows, a ship is considered the sovereign territory of the country it is registered in. Are you friends with Phillip Nolan?
Gordondon son of Ethelred · 15 years, 9 months ago
So who is going to make the master list of all the nations visited by Fruheads?
stealthlori Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
me too. but Spain is veryvery likely this July. *crosses crossables*
stealthlori Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
um. you.
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
um no. My job is to have ideas, it is always someone else's job to do the actual work. I am a natural born committee member.
Andrea Krause Back · 15 years, 9 months ago

US, Canada, France, Bahamas. Not very well-travelled. I really want to hit scotland, england wales, ireland. Dunno when or if that'll happen.

stealthlori Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
I refute this nonsense with the evidence given by you in your latest livejournal entry.

:P
Gordondon son of Ethelred Back · 15 years, 9 months ago
